((Feb 18 09)) U.S. missiles killed 18 people on the Pakistan side of the Afghan border Friday ((Jan 23 09)), security officials said, the first attacks on the al-Qaida stronghold since President Barack Obama took office. At least five foreign militants were among those killed in the strikes by unmanned aircraft in two parts of the frontier region, an intelligence official said without naming them.
The first attack Friday took place in the village of Zharki in North Waziristan, when a single drone fired three missiles in the space of 10 minutes, the security officials said.
The missiles destroyed two buildings, killing 10 people, at least five of whom were foreign militants, the officials said on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to the media.
Hours later, a second missile struck a house in South Waziristan, killing eight people, the officials said, giving no more details.
The United States does not acknowledges firing the missiles, which are believed to be mostly fired from drones operated by the CIA and launched from neighboring Afghanistan.
According to an AP tally based on accounts from Pakistani security officials, at least 263 people — most of them alleged militants — have been killed in the strikes since last August.

Former Secretary of Defense, Casper Weinberger is only one anti-Semitic man who used to work for Bechtel. Even though his father was Jewish he was very anti-Israel.
George Schultz was also a Bechtel corporation man who became Secretary of State after helping Casper Weinberger force out a pro-Israel Alexander Haig! This is nothing new, but old stuff under Ronald Reagan.

Head of Philippines 'terror' group arrested,
Police said Tuesday they had arrested the head of a group of Islamist militants behind a deadly bombing in the Philippines capital, who also plotted attacks against US targets.
Dino Amor Pareja, the leader of the Rajah Solaiman Movement, a group of Christians who had converted to become Islamic militants, was captured at his hideout in the southern city of Marawi on Friday, national police chief Edgardo Verzosa told a news conference.
Verzosa said the US Department of Defense had offered a 90,000-dollar reward for information leading to the arrest of the suspect. An unnamed informant received a separate 500,000-peso (10,000-dollar) reward for the arrest, he added.
Also known as Khalil Pareja, Abu Jihad and Al-Luzoni, the suspect is to stand trial in connection with a 2005 bombing in Manila's financial district that claimed three lives.
The police chief described Pareja as a skilled bomb-maker who was trained by Dulmatin and Umar Patek, both Jemaah Islamiyah militants who fled Indonesia to the Philippines to escape prosecution for the deadly 2002 Bali bombings.

Pakistan Taliban threaten to avenge leader's death
Pakistan's Taliban have threatened to avenge the death of their leader in a US missile strike, as experts warned Wednesday of possible attacks by a new leadership keen to prove its strength.
Hakimullah Mehsud late Tuesday declared himself new chief of the feared Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) militia, confirming for the first time that Baitullah Mehsud -- insurgent leader since 2007 -- was killed this month.
Pakistani and US officials have been saying for weeks that Baitullah Mehsud died when a missile from a US drone aircraft hit his father-in-law's home on August 5, but Taliban officials had insisted the warlord was simply ill.
"He remained unconscious after being seriously injured in a drone attack and died on Sunday," Hakimullah Mehsud told AFP.
"We will take revenge and soon. We will give our reply to this drone attack to America," he added.
Officials say Baitullah Mehsud died weeks ago and that the Taliban insisted he was still alive to create a smokescreen for intense infighting among rebel commanders to inherit the brutal legacy of Pakistan's most-wanted man.

A member of an Islamist militant group that kidnapped four Americans in the western Philippines has been arrested, police said Wednesday.
Hajer Sailani, also known as Martin Alvarez, was arrested in a shopping mall on Mindanao island on Sunday by military and police operatives, a police statement said.
The Abu Sayyaf member, who has a 350,000-peso (7,000-dollar) bounty on his head, "is now undergoing tactical interrogation", the police said. ((They are beating the shit out of him in between waterboading sessions. He will sing like a canary))
Sailani was among Abu Sayyaf men wanted for kidnapping 20 foreign and local tourists from a beach resort on Palawan island in 2001.
Among the captives were an American missionary couple, one of whom died in captivity after a rescue operation a year later. The kidnappers beheaded a third American hostage, Guillermo Sobero. ((The American missionary died from Philippine military ammunition. The scared fools were firing in all directions and did not care if they hit the hostages or not. This came from the lips of the missionary's wife who was also a hostage and from certain American assets we know.))
Sailani is also wanted for the kidnapping for Jeffrey Schilling in August 2000. The young American, who walked into an Abu Sayyaf hideout with a Muslim bride, was freed unharmed several months later.
The Abu Sayyaf is a small band of Islamic militants blamed for the country's worst terrorist attacks. It was established in the early 1990s allegedly with seed money from Osama bin Laden's Al Qaeda network.
