Foreigners are jerked out of cars at the frequent in-city police road-blocks, intimidated and sometimes robbed.

If you make the police mad then they place drugs in your car and charge you. You either pay or they allow the judicial system to kidnap you and place you in prison for life!

This is the norm for The Philippine Islands.

The U. S. Embassy might help you after you endure torture for 13 years like David Orland. . . . . Maybe . . . . . maybe.

WAn American is charged on false drug charges because he urinated on a police car and spends 16 years in jail on the charges until released on a judicial review.

His protagonists are not charged.

David Orland, is an American national who used to run Little Marios pizzas next to Roy's bar in the early 1990s in Angeles City, Pampanga.

He was arrested on 5 Sept 1995 and spent 2 1/2 years in jail in Angeles City, then was found guilty of intent to supply drugs and sentenced to life in prison.

He was transferred to the national jail in Muntinlupa where he spent the next 10 1/2 years enduring regular beatings with a thick rattan rod soaked in water

Some one at the US embassy persuaded a top Makati law firm to take  the case to appeal on a pro bono basis. Reading the transcripts of the trial and evidence one is impressed that even by Philippine standards the man is innocent.

A judge subsequently ordered his immediate release and acquitted him. He was moved to the Bicutan center for 6 months awaiting deportation. In the nation's worst prison he contacted TB and lost the use of 54 percent of his lungs. He left the Philippine Islands in june of 2008 and the police who arrested him on trumped-up charges are still free working and stealing like they always have.

His only crime was urinating in front of a church and spitting on a police car. Spitting on a police car in The Philippine Islands can get you shot.

David Orland did not deserve to spend 13 1/2 years of his life for his attitude.

Why didn't the U. S. embassy get him released a decade or more before. Before he lost nearly 50% of his lungs to TB from a third world torture chamber? Does a man have to suffer like this before the U. S. embassy takes pity on him?

This is real life in The Philippine Islands and the foggy-bottom boys they did better than normal. However, A State Department attorney told the unlucky religious worker they could not help him until he had been murdered! Say what? How does that help him? See what I mean about the liberal nuts running U. S. foreign policy?
