((Jun 9 09)) Gloria Macapagal Arroyo (GMA) must be really worried about what will happen to her and her family after leaving government next year. The diplomatic immunity currently enjoyed by the first family will be gone after her term limit expires at the 2010 elections.
With all the corruption committed by GMA and her family they may all be charged under the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC) agreement, which her own government ratified in 2006. GMA will also have to answer all the Human Rights violations perpetrated on the P.I. under her administration.
The first gentlemen (FG) Mr. Mike Arroyo no longer accompanies the president on her foreign junkets to the US, he has also missed the last two Manny Pacquiao boxing matches in Las Vegas, FG had never missed a bout prior to late 2008. It is rumored that in August 2008, US investigators on a fact finding mission on terrorist funding encountered some foreign bank accounts with huge sums of money belonging to the FG. It is believed that should the FG find himself on US soil he will be taken for questioning by the FBI.
The stress must be becoming unbearable for GMA, most recently she has tried to convene congress into a constitutional assembly to make changes to the constitution. The outrageous attempt is being made without the support of the senate or the majority of her constituents, protests will begin on June 10, 2009. It is believed this sham is being perpetrated to extend her term in office much like Putin did in Russia.
GMA has already tried to forge alliances with China The U.S. were not pleased about that move. In desperation GMA is now trying to court the Russians.
The article below outlines how GMA has sought closer ties with the Russians, especially on defense.
Generally a defense alliance is between two countries only, as the saying goes “two is company, three is a crowd”. As a defense alliance exists between the P.I. and the U.S., this can only be perceived as a provocative tactic on the U.S.

Philippines, Russia
strike agreement on defense
The Philippines and Russia agreed to strengthen military cooperation after President Gloria Arroyo visited that country to attend a global economic forum last week.
In an interview Sunday over a state-run radio, Press Secretary Cerge Remonde said the Philippine and Russian governments agreed to boost defense cooperation by initially designating defense attachés in both countries.
“These defense attaches will study specific programs between the two countries on how to further improve military and defense cooperation,” he explained.
Besides forging a stronger military tie-up, Russia may agree to supply natural gas to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean)— a regional block of 10 countries that include the Philippines. President Arroyo, who returned to Manila also on Sunday, made the request during her visit there.
“Russia could supply us with natural gas. We want to have a share of the huge Russian natural gas exports to Europe and the US,” Remonde added, noting that Russia supplies Europe and US of around 60 percent of its gas exports.
He also said Russia and the Philippines would soon sign an air agreement that would open up direct flights between the two countries.
The Russian leader made the commitment to President Arroyo during their 45-minute bilateral meeting on Friday at the sidelines of the 13th Saint Petersburg International Economic Forum.
The Philippines has been pushing for air links to Russia in recent years. The absence of a direct flight between the Philippines and Russia was a major setback to the two countries’ tourism programs.
Diplomatic, trade ties Philippine diplomatic relations with Russia dates back to June 1974, when the defunct Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR) still existed. After the breakup of the USSR, agreements between the two countries were taken over by the Russian Federation.
Last year, the Philippine government, through its embassy in Moscow, took new initiatives to raise to a higher level bilateral trade ((Drugs, we say!)) and enhance interaction in various fields, notably agriculture, energy, tourism, education, and science and technology.
These areas of cooperation were identified during the visit to the Philippines of Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in August 2007.
Since 1976, Russia and the Philippines have concluded 22 bilateral agreements, 12 of them under the administration of President Arroyo. The latest accord was the memorandum of understanding between Russia’s Academy of Labor and Social Relations and the University of San Carlos signed on May 4, 2009.
